What Is Surrogacy? 

Through surrogacy, any married couple can rent a woman’s womb to have a child. 

Surrogacy is an agreement between a woman and a child-desiring couple or single parent. 

A woman who gives her womb on rent to have a child is called a surrogate mother. 

There can be many reasons for getting a surrogacy, such as a couple is not able to have a child or does not want to have a child or there is a danger to the life of the woman in giving birth to the child. 

In such a situation, any other woman carries the child of that couple in her womb.  

There Are Two Types Of Surrogacy

Traditional Surrogacy

In this surrogacy, the sperm of the first born father is fertilized with the eggs of another woman. 

In such surrogacy, the genetic relationship is only with the father.

Gestational Surrogacy

In this surrogacy, after the sperm and eggs of the parents are fertilized through a test tube, it is implanted in the uterus of the surrogate mother. 

In this surrogacy, the child is genetically related to both the parents.

In what Situations Is Surrogacy Done? 

If the woman is having repeated miscarriages.

Uterus is weak or there is some other problem in it.

The uterus must not have been formed by birth.

IVF treatment has failed three or more times.

Uterine TB.

Have a disease that makes it impossible or dangerous to conceive, such as heart disease, severe thyroid problems, etc.

what Is The Process 

Usually a surrogate mother is selected through an agency.After this a legal contract is made for surrogacy.

Through IVF, the mother’s eggs or donor eggs are matched with the father’s sperm to make an embryo.  

The embryo is then implanted in the uterus of the surrogate mother. 

After the birth of the child, after which the legal parent gets the legal custody of the child.

Cost Of Surrogacy 

The cost of surrogacy in India ranges between Rs 15 to 30 lakhs, while in foreign countries it costs around Rs 70 lakhs. 

The surrogate mother is given money to take care of herself during pregnancy and for medical needs so that she can take care of herself during pregnancy.
