Walnuts were not given to one group of people to eat while the other group was given walnuts.

The people in the study were not given any medication to lower the amount of lipids.

The participants in the study consumed an average of 67 grams of walnuts per day.

They then saw a 5.1 percent reduction in cholesterol concentrations, a 7.4 percent decrease in low-density lipoprotein (the bad cholesterol) and an 8.3 percent change in high-density lipoprotein (good cholesterol).

Researchers say that the effect of consuming walnuts, almonds or peanuts depends on the amount of these dry fruits consumed and all types of dry fruits have similar effects on the level of lipids in the blood.
